Understanding electricity in Spain: a practical guide to optimise your energy usage
Living in Spain comes with many perks – sunny days, relaxed rhythms, and more time to enjoy life. But when it comes to electricity, things may work differently from what you’re used to.
At Energy Nordic, we offer two straightforward pricing options: Fixed and Flexible. Both are based on the official electricity market in Spain, where energy prices shift daily based on real-time supply and demand.
📈 How the Spanish Energy Market Works?
Electricity prices in Spain are set through the national pool market – a system where energy is bought and sold hour by hour. Factors like renewable generation (sun, wind), fuel costs, and EU regulations affect these prices.
To simplify things, Energy Nordic offers just two clear options:
- Fixed Tariff – A consistent price per kWh, offering stability and peace of mind.
- Flexible Tariff – Prices vary throughout the day, allowing you to save by adjusting when you use electricity.
⚡ Flexible Tariff Explained: Standard Time Bands
Our flexible tariff follows the official 2.0 TD model, which divides each day into three time periods:
🟥 Peak Hours (most expensive):
10:00–14:00 and 18:00–22:00
🟧 Flat Hours (moderate price):
08:00–10:00, 14:00–18:00 and 22:00–00:00
🟩 Off-Peak Hours (cheapest):
00:00–08:00, weekends and public holidays

This structure rewards customers who shift high-consumption activities – like washing, cooking or charging electric vehicles – to off-peak or flat hours.
Visual Time Band Guide
We’ve created a simple, easy-to-follow graphic that shows all time bands clearly using Energy Nordic’s signature turquoise and dark blue colours. It’s a helpful tool to visualise:

- When it’s moderately priced
- When it’s best to reduce usage
By understanding your tariff, you can enjoy the same lifestyle while keeping your electricity bill under control.
